Who builds this, and why you should believe the score

Last updated: August 6, 2026

Ecommerce Benchmark is a store audit built and operated by Omniconvert, an eCommerce optimization company founded in Bucharest in 2013. We have spent thirteen years running conversion and retention experiments for other people’s stores. This tool is the shortest version of what we learned: six things worth checking, scored against real competitors in your category and country. A free quick pass runs in about a minute; the full six-area audit goes deeper.

What makes this different

There is no shortage of free store scanners. Four things separate this one, and two of them are things nobody else measures at all.

Six areas at once, not one

Most audit tools score a single dimension: just SEO, just speed, just CRO. This one runs Creative & Ads, Reviews & UGC, AI Visibility, Agentic Commerce, Competitor Synthesis and CRO in parallel, then rolls them into one number. The point isn’t the number; it’s seeing which of the six is actually costing you money.

Two things nobody else measures

AI Visibility asks whether AI assistants can find and cite your store. Agentic Commerce asks whether an AI shopping agent could browse, evaluate and buy on a customer’s behalf. Both are scored from your live structured data and grounded web searches. We haven’t found another store audit that scores either today.

Scored against real competitors, not a checklist

Every area is benchmarked against real competitors in your category and country, pulled from live ad libraries and public review platforms. A 62 in Fashion & Apparel in the UK means something different from a 62 in Toys in the US, and the score reflects that.

Built on 7,000+ audited stores

The CRO score inherits Omniconvert’s CROBenchmark research: 7,000+ eCommerce stores audited against 248+ criteria across 65 countries, with a rubric built by 100+ CRO practitioners. It’s one of the largest public datasets of its kind, and it’s free to download and cite.

The full scoring rules, data sources, and an honest list of what this audit does not measure are on the methodology page.

Who runs it

Valentin Radu, Founder and CEO of Omniconvert
Valentin Radu
Founder & CEO, Omniconvert

Valentin founded Omniconvert in 2013 after running conversion and retention experiments as CMO of a large online car-insurance company. Those experiments produced a 36% increase in incremental revenue in a single year, which convinced him to build a product other eCommerce companies could use to do the same. He is the author of The CLV Revolution: Transform Your Ecommerce with Customer Value Optimization, and teaches through the CVO Academy, which more than 5,000 eCommerce professionals have completed.

Thirteen years, briefly

2013 to 2026, milestone by milestone
  1. 2013
Founded by four people in the corner of a Bucharest advertising agency, building the first platform to put A/B testing, surveys and on-site overlays under one login. First paying customers within weeks.
  2. 2016
Catalyst Romania invested €1 million. The company rebranded from Marketizator to Omniconvert and shifted from optimizing the first click to the whole customer lifecycle.
  3. 2018
G2 named Omniconvert the CRO tool with the highest overall customer satisfaction. 200 interviews with eCommerce and retail leaders surfaced customer lifetime value as their biggest unsolved problem.
  4. 2019
Defined Customer Value Optimization as a category and began building customer analytics around CLV rather than conversion rate alone.
  5. 2021
Launched the CVO Academy with eight practitioners and academics. More than 5,000 eCommerce professionals have since gone through it.
  6. 2023
Reached profitability with a team of 35, producing four times the output of the 60-person team of 2017. Tempur, Auchan, Orange, Avon and Max Mara adopted the platform.
  7. 2025
Launched v2 of the AI CRO audits at CROBenchmark.com, and collected the store data behind the CROBenchmark 2026 report.
  8. 2026
Opened the beta for Nexus, the AI eCommerce growth engine, and launched this site: a free public audit covering all six areas.

The research behind the scores

The CRO half of your score draws on CROBenchmark 2026, one of the largest public eCommerce conversion audits published to date. Store data was collected throughout 2025 and published in Q2 2026. The full report, the raw data tables and the scoring rubric are free, with no paywall.

7,000+eCommerce stores audited
248+criteria, 6 dimensions
65countries in the dataset
15+industries covered
8platforms, Shopify included
100+CRO practitioners built the rubric
98%
of stores send corrupted or incomplete conversion data to Meta and Google.
99.6%
fail to make guest checkout visible and prominent, the single most studied cause of checkout abandonment.
42.4%
of Shopify stores score zero on tracking hygiene, despite Shopify being the most common platform in the dataset.
2.5×
performance gap between top- and bottom-quartile stores, explained by execution infrastructure rather than product or spend.
On the obvious conflict of interest. CROBenchmark is an Omniconvert product, and so is this tool. The scoring criteria were developed independently of Omniconvert’s commercial products: each check asks whether a store uses any appropriate tool for a given job, never specifically an Omniconvert one. No store is identified by name in aggregate reporting.
